ABOUT BOWEN LAWYERS


Marguerite was born in Poland and immigrated to Australia in 1978. After 2 years in Adelaide and Coober Pedy, Marguerite moved to Darwin in 1980. Marguerite has completed the following.

  • Nationally Accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, assisting with mediation since 2006;
  • Studied Batchelor of Arts and Laws at the NT University.
  • Graduated with Arts Degree (Sociology & Psychology) in 1997
  • Graduated with Laws Degree in 1999.
  • Completed Articles with De Silva Hebron in 2000.
  • Admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of the NT Australia on 7 March 2000.
  • Had her name entered on the Register of the Practitioners of the High Court of Australia on 30 June 2000 entitling her to practise as Barrister and Solicitor in the federal courts of Australia.
  • Worked for De Silva Hebron for 1 and a half years in Commercial and Conveyancing Section;
  • Worked for Cecil Black from 2001 to 2004 practising exclusively in Family Law.
  • Sole practitioner since November 2004.


Marguerite practises as a Barrister/Solicitor in the following jurisdictions:

  • Federal Jurisdiction (family law issues)Supreme Court Northern Territory (wills/probate issues)
  • Local Court Northern Territory (domestic violence, child protection issues)
  • Registrar General Department (conveyancing, powers of attorney)


Marguerite specialises in Family Law and represents parties, whether they are parents, grandparents or carers to enable them to reach the most appropriate outcome for their situation, at the least possible cost, and where possible, to avoid the court. Domestic Violence and Child Protection is an area that Marguerite has experience in both initiating and defending clients. Marguerite also has extensive knowledge in Advance Personal Plans, Wills, Power of Attorney, Probates/Letters of Administration, and Conveyancing.

During Marguerite’s 39 years living in Darwin Marguerite has gained an understanding of the challenges that come with living in the Northern Territory and remote areas. Bowen Lawyers offers telephone conferences to rural and remote clients. Marguerite has gained a significant understanding of multicultural and indigenous issues, given her background, serving on a committee of Multicultural Council, Women advisory Council, working at the Don Dale Juvenile Detention Centre as a youth worker, and with indigenous clients in areas such as family, domestic violence and child protection.

Volunteering as an advisor / supervisor with the Darwin Community Legal Service (DCLS) since 1996 until 2019 and providing legal assistance through Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission (NTLAC) has given Marguerite the opportunity to assist those in most need where their financial capacity is at the minimum.
